Ford escort Tokyo SSS - Buying a very rare car - ginny1970
I found a very rare Tokyo SSS for sale for £27595 in need of some tlc. It's a 1974 and has had an engine replaced in 96 according to the log book. It's left hand drive and was imported in 2000 from Sweden. It's got a few rust spots but nothing that needs welding and the paintwork is cracked and faded and interior is a mess. I have heard these are making £45k plus so there is room for profit but is there any thing I should look out for. My gut is telling me this is to good to be true somethings not right but not sure if it's the guy or the car that's not straight

your right Tokyos are makeing that kind of money IF you can find one(there was only about 800 build) but thats not one. the clues are there

one: they where only build in Japan for the Japannees market to boost ford sales so they where only right hand drive

two: production ran from feb 1972 to dec 1972 it was axed due to very poor sales.so it couldn't be a 74

so don't walk away RUN!!!

If the interior is "a mess", how will you sort it?

No new parts, likely no secondhand parts... so rebuild or replace.

££££s...

Replaced engine? Check the engine numbers.

Sounds overpriced by about £29,000 to me.

It was mentioned on this site in May last year! Crossing the gullibility threshold from bag of nails to work of art does seem to add zeroes to the price of a car.
