Ford Focus - Ford Focus 2001 1.8TDCI Starting Issues - ms2015uk

Hi all,

My Beloved 2001 Ford Focus 1.8TDCI 122,000 miles is having troubles! When I first start in the morning, it turns over for a good few seconds before it eventually coughs out a load of black smoke, and comes to life. I had it serviced about 2000 miles ago - oil filter & oil change done. It has been sat due to unforseen circumstances for around 4 months, however I had been going out once every week or so to turn the engine over.

Any suggestions/help/previous experience much appreciated!

When were the glow plugs last changed?

Could also be air getting into the fuel system through a worn hose/seal

By the way you're better off just letting an un-used car stand. Starting it up and standing it does nothing except build up condensation in the exhaust and engine.
