Yes, Hyundai do cover the DPF under the 5 uear warranty, but the warranty only covers manufacturing defects.

If it fails through inapropriate use (like only driving in town) you are on your own.

How do I know this, I asked both Kia and Hyundai the same question when we bought the wifes car, bought the Kia.

My my!

Aint der English language wonderful in its inherent flexibility.

BUT

I absolutly definately clearly asked and re-asked the salesman about city driving & doing 5000 miles per year, and diesel/DPF "issues".

I did quietly wonder how this DPF warrenty in respect of inappropriate useage could be possible.

Even by Hyundai.

So, as always salespersons are by-n-large lying "£$%^&*dos!!

Congratulations (to dieseldogg) on making a post which makes no sense.

I'm going to assume you meant 'because a salesman SAYS they do cover the DPF under their 5 year warranty'.

Unfortunately, you are assuming that a salesman is a mechanic, or a service adviser, or knows something more than the bottom line he can sell a car for. There is a reason he works in sales; it is because he is good at SELLING.

Please ask the salesman if you can have this statement about the DPF in writing, with his bosses signature attached. If that is forthcoming, then it is a different matter.

Reading Hyundai's website, and the warranty details on it, it doesn't specifically exclude the DPF from the warranty. However, you may find that there are specific instructions in an owners manual on 'what to do if the DPF light comes on', for forcing a regeneration. Failure to comply with those instructions (which might well include a 30 minute motorway run at speed), might then put an owner outside of the warranty.

I blame my slixdexyia, yes "said", and erm,

cheers

PS

Just "testing the waters"

I ud def NOT ave bought, without the salesperson spelling it out in clear written English AND signed being by the dealer principle.

Which would NOT have happened.

I "imagine"

I wouldn't trust anything a salesman says.

Get it in writing and check for small print, there might be a low mileage get out clause in their warranty terms.

I am mystified why the OP would buy a diesel for doing just 5,000 miles each year. Oh well, each to their own. Good job Boris isn't Mayor of Belfast.

Derp!

I had VERY specifically requested a small petrol engine, to be suitable as a city scoot-aboot.

the salesman tried to SELL me a diesel.

Well, my! how the times they have a changed.

Cos I mind when it was absolutly the other way round, salespersons attempting to sell me a petrol in the good old pre-DPF/dual mass flywheel diesel days.

regards,

Marcus

When I bought my last car I quite like the new Volvo V40. The 1.6 Turbo petrol ticked all the boxes pretty much, cheaper than a Golf and BMW and better equipped.

So off we went to the Volvo dealer only to be told that they did not sell petrols. So I pointed out the fact that they were listed in the price list. He went on to say they never sold any, had never seen one and I could not drive one.

Simple solution, went elsewhere. Bought a Seat Petrol that in truth suited us better and was far cheaper and just as well equipped.

Vote with your feet. If they don't want to sell you what you want to buy go elsewhere.
