Ford S-MAX - power stearing - unas

Hi my ford smax power steering getting tighten for last couple of months.it was not frequent before but now the winter started and when the car is cold its tighten up.hard to turn for couple of seconds

Check the power steering pump belt is tight. Could be slipping in cold damp conditions when loaded.

What year/engine size do you have? Diesel or petrol? There are completely different systems dependent upon this. The most common S-max is the 2.0 tdci which had a electohydraulic pump (ie no belts). The pumps and steering racks on these are not trouble free.

hi 56 reg 2 tdci diesel zetec. most of the time the tightnes i can felt when the engine is cold

I can hear a small sound that wasn't before .when the tightness of the power stearing the sound is bit more.when you try to turn the stearing you can hear that sound more loudly.Is this sound from the pump ?

Sounds like a slipping belt as mentioned.
