VW Golf 1.9 GT TDI (2002) - VW Golf - Engine mount failure and repair... - darossi

To cut a long story short:

1) Car started making loud noises and vibrating heavily whilst driving.

2) Pulled over, called RAC. They suggested that an engine mount had failed (engine was 'wonky'). Towed car home.

3) Booked car into garage.

4) They called today, told me that two engine mounts had gone, including one attached to gearbox. Said the dropped engine had damaged "some hoses" also. Total cost of repairs (including parts, labour and VAT) - £1,095.

Is this feasible and reasonable? I have done a lot of Googling on VW Golf engine mounts failing and whilst it seems fairly common for a car of 10+ years of age, none of the other posts I'd read anywhere mention hose damage.

Any advice appreciated!

Go to the garage, and ask them to show you what they mean, what is damaged, etc.

It's entirely possibly for lots of things to break/get damaged if engine mounts fail. Equally possible for nothing else at all to be damaged.
