First point-most of them would struggle to reach a true 70 mph, and the M6 didn't exist then.
Second point - their stopping distance is close to what is detailed in the Highway Code because it has never been updated since the data used was based on tests carried out in the 1950's.
Don't forget that most of these relics had cable brakes with enormous brake drums and could quite easily lock all four wheels if the system was adjusted properly-the tyres however were horrible stiff cross plies with very little wet grip.
Don't ask me how I know all this!
