Well done Mitsubishi for standing behind your products

Shame on Vauxhall and their GM junk who have withdrawn their 'lifetime warranty' from the 1st of Jan and have gone back to 3 years or 60,000 miles

Mitsubishi 5 year warranty from 1st Jan - RT

I think Vauxhall were "forced" to withdraw it by their US parent who were facing increasing pressure to introduce something similar there which would have cost a fortune - Vauxhall's deal wasn't costing much because it wasn't transferable to second owners so few cars actually went past the 3 years with that warranty.

One thing that is needed with all extended warranties, indeed all ordinary warranties, is a very clearly documented list of the wear/tear exceptions and the time/mileage restriction that's applied to them. Hyundai have such a well documented list in their warranty booklet so there should be no issues there, but inevitably some dealers play silly b*****s and won't put claims up to Hyundai UK for approval.

I wouldn't want an extended warranty that isn't manufacturer-backed throughout - some of them rely on dealer-backed warranty after an initial period.

Are Mitsu` vehicles suddenly going to be come 40% more reliable overnight?

Mitsu` management will have estimated the cost of the extra warranty repairs and budgeted accordingly. Its a sales gimmick not an indication of how relaible their vehicles are.

The increased sales it will generate may even offset the cost of the extra warranty repairs and make them a profit.

A 5 year warrant isn't a sales gimmick.

Their cars already have a good reputation, what it does do is high light others with poor warranties such as my Mazda, nissan, honda. Etc.

Subaru warranty is 5 years now, but last 2 years are drive train only. I'm happy with that as it was drive train problems that caused me to get rid of my Freelander at 3 years old. In my case it was an expensive Haldex/diff issue and drive train problems are generally the ones that cost £1000's rather than £10's or £100's.

Subaru isnt really a five year warranty then.

My son runs older cars his BMW compact timing chain failed costing around £900 to repair over 3 years old but under 60K.

His present pile of junk an Astra has had a new gearbox under warranty, and a failed engine out of warranty, cost in the thousands and still waiting for WD to payout, even though the onsbusman says he should be.

So IMO a manufactures proper 5 year warranty is a selling point, aftermarket cover isnt straight forward.

The Mitsubishi five year warranty has a mileage limit of 62,500 miles (125,000 in the case of the L200) - so not quite as good as the warranties from Toyota (100,000 miles), and Hyundai (unlimited miles) for those that do above average mileage.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Mitsubishi at one time have a 100,000 mile warranty? I can remember hearing about an owner who had a problem just out of warranty. Mitsubishi still came up trumps.

As my sister is finding out with her 4 year old i30. For the second time the rear wash wipe has failed. First time the car as 2 years old and it was fixed no quibble. Now 2 years on the dealers are stating they won't fix it under warranty as a working rear wash wipe isn't a requirement for the MOT.

What complete a***01es. Does that mean they won't repair a gearbox that fails since its not an MOT requirement.

Get them to point out the MOT clause in the warranty conditions.

Same applies to Kia. On the forum (which is populated mostly by a load of people who do nothing but moan) there have been loads of posts about dealers who will not do repairs under warranty.

Fortunately our experience of Kia has been excellent. When the AC packed in I initially expected it to be blamed on the refrigerant being low which is not covered under warranty after 3 years (unless its part of a repair). When they said it was a holed condensor I fully expected to be charged for a new one due to stone damage. But both condensor and refrigerant were replaced totally FOC.

Then a few weeks ago the wife said the car felt slow and was making a whistling noise. Phoned dealer Friday lunchtime and the apologised saying they would not be able to look at it until 4 pm. Took it in (it felt and sounded fine to me on the way there) and they hooked it up to the diagnostics. No codes and no fault found. The said that the only thing they found was an incompleted regen (which we knew about) and in order to reset the system they carried out a forced one. All totally FOC again. Car felt no different to me after, wife now agrees its fine and probably was all along.

Regarding Mitsubishi's mileage limit personally I don't think it will affect many buyers since most are bought privately.

BS !!

Complying with the MoT isn't the only criteria for warranty work - if it's a standard feature of the car that's not in the list of wear/tear exclusions it should be covered.

Get your sister to find another Hyundai dealer or escalate the issue to Hyundai UK.

Here's a list of exclusions to Hyundai's 5 year warranty. No mention of MOT or wiper motors!

I ran a Shogun (Pajero) when I was posted to Kenya for a couple of years, as did my boss. They were excellent machines - highly reliable, able to handle the roads and offroads.

I know the Discovery 4 handles better etc, but if were paying with my own money it would be a Mitsubishi Shogun or a Toyota Landcruiser.

Youngest son has just bought a 2 year old Toyota Yaris 1.3SR. One key point to him was the remaining three years of the five year warranty. As it was sold by a Toyota dealer , it was fully maintained etc..and for under £8k with part leather seats a cheap car with some interior class.

He would not look at anything for that money without a manufacturer warranty,

>>One key point to him was the remaining three years of the five year warranty.

I looked at a 2-year-old, 40K mile Toyota at a main dealer that had no history of ever being serviced.

The salesman said "that can be corrected on the computer".

I walked!
