I think diesel is going to get taxed a lot in the future due to its excessive particulates. Have driven the diesel Macan which is v g. Did not like to see the extra pipe under the fuel filter cap which has to be charged up every 12K miles and costing £125 each time though. Anyway think petrol S is the best way to go. Do you think the petrol turbo costing another 9K is cost effective considering the petrol consumption is not really that different between either version and is in the same tax bracket re CO2 and considering future depreciation which would be best do you think? Petrol head friends tell me the turbo.

When you are spending £50k on a car, another £1k a year in fuel costs a year should be an irrelevance.

I think the only answer is to get a good long test drive in each of turbo and non-turbo (I agree, go for petrol unless your annual mileage is very high). The non-turbo petrol and the diesel are both about £15,000 cheaper then the turbo, so the latter will have to be something very special to make it worth the extra. But the 3.0 is surely worth the £3,000 extra over the 2.0.

On British roads the non-turbo S should be everything you need. If and when you get it, do come back to us and give us your impressions.

No, Internet problem, anyone can post any old rubbish any time. If the OP is really going to buy a Macan then why would (s)he care one iota about what some folks on a forum thought? If they are not then they've got major problems if they want to convince a bunch of strangers that they might buy one.

Part of what we do here is to give (hopefully) helpful advice to people thinking about a new car. They should be able to do so, whatever the price of the car, without being accused of posting rubbish.

Arguable the more one is going to spend, the more grateful one might be for advice.

An nice dilemma for the new Year! The diesel unit is the VW/Audi one, lots of issues with it on the forums and you'll be buying a Euro 6 version with additional exhaust after-treatment technology on it -- very complex and a lot to go wrong. I would be going for a petrol version, with a Porsche motor, no idea which though, depends on your ultimate budget and how much performance you need. I predict that the S petrol version will prove the most cost effective to buy and suffer the relative least depreciation somehow. At the end of the day one buys a Porsche for performance and to marvel at the engineering, to me that means petrol powered- just my thoughts! best of luck and let us know how it is after a month or two! The 911 is my dream car!
