Citroen C1 - Need advice - car has no tickets or police records - Dave2014

Greetings,

How can someone be sure that a car has no previous tickets or police records?

we bought a used car last month, from a nearby car dealer who lives few blocks from our place. The dealer suggested signing the V5C form in an earlier date to maintain the road tax. We hesitated at the beginning, but the dealer assured us that the car has not been used by nobody, and provided a written declaration and explanation of the actual day of acquisition via email. So we signed the form, dated few days earlier. the car has been HPI checked and all is okay, and we received our new V5C form.

later, however, we become concerned more and more, whether we may be responsible for anything wrong happened with this car during the few days gap before our actual acquisition of the car and the form date. I understand that it was wrong to sign the form in previous date, and we regret doing this, but my question how we may fix this, and how we may double check that there is no tickets or police records for this car?

any advice is appreciated, and many thanks in advance.

Dave

Any outstanding speeding tickets should be void as they have to send out a Notice of Intended Proescution within 15 days of the offence. Outstanding parking tickets can take longer than a month.

What concerns me is that there is a serious offence of making a false statement to obtain Excise Licence, Wjhether or not this has occurred will be argueable and further information.

Moral: Never tamper with the truth.....

Falsefying a legally enforceable document probably isn't the best idea you've ever had, however that's done and you'll have to accept any backlash from your actions. As far as I'm aware the police have 14 days to inform you of any intention to prosecute a traffic offence, so if you've not heard by now you should be ok. However if your car was proved to be involved in any criminal activity during your ownership get yourself good legal representation.
