Volvo V70 D4 SE Luxe - stop start function - PODSY

Hi

The stop start function works intermittently.

I realise there are many situations, such as temperature variation in the passenger cabin, heated screen on, battery low when the stop function is not meant ot operate.

Sometimes the stop soes not operate for several days despite some long journeys then it seems to work normally for a while.

The dealer implied there is probably a factor which I am unaware of such as a bit of misting on the screen which is stopping the stop function operating but I'm not convinced.

Do you think I should accept the situation or insist they diagnose the problem, if they can.

The car is under warranty

I'm on my second Volvo with stop/start (a V60 D3 and now a V60 D4), and I always disable the function when I start the car. I find the stop/start irritating because of its occasionally random operation, and it's been the same on both cars.

My current D4 actually gives the consumption in gallons per hour, which at idle when fully warmed up is 0.1gals/hour, or 456ml/hour, equivalent to 7.6ml per minute - which is 1.5 teaspoons of diesel per minute.

Stop-start is useful for lowering the stated emissions in the EU urban test cycle, which helps reduce BIK tax for company car users, but it doesn't save much in the way of fuel.

Unfortunately as the owner/driver you will not be able to fix this yourself.Hopefully the Volvo dealer will be able to interogate the s/s system and make an analysis of the problem.In common with a lot of modern technology on cars,it may not be a specific fault but rather a software update to the electronic network

I had a V70 D5, (great car).

Just disable the function as it an annoyance! It will make little difference to fuel consumption and will make driving the car easier.
