Yesterday, driving on an urban dual carriageway, suffered a bit of road rage..

Was driving at the 30mph speed limit in the outer lane and when the road was clear moved over to the left lane to be in the correct place when the road split a bit further on, and an old astra pulled sharply across in front of me and hit the brakes, I had plenty of rooom to stop and did so. He stopped, so i decided to pass on the outside, but he moved across to block me. I stopped and waited, and noticed a bus behind me ( i thought he had stopped) applied hand brake (taking foot off brakes and as i opened the door the bus rolled very gently into the back of my car, (NO damage, paint not scuffed even) and swmbo and myself naturally not hurt.

The astra then drove off and i told the bus driver that i had stopped to ask his assistance as he would have seen it all, and he replied that he should have it on his onboard camera and that the other driver would be in trouble for having caused an accident and failing to stop.

we exchanged details and he called his depot to inform them and said he would have to make a report. He was professional and courteous the whole time, and has now given his managers e-mail. he saidto them in my hearing that it should be recorded on cctv.

I have no intention of making a claim , but will inform my insurance company regardless to avoid any possible complications.

Any advice from the Forum? or HJ?

About the only other thing i'd do ORB is to write to the bus company officially not in order to make any future claim (you can always highlight that in your letter) but to ask them to record the incident to hard drive if indeed the bus recorder picked it up...thats probably already been done anyway.

Maybe they would be kind enough to send you a copy of the footage, i don't know.

Seems a lot of trouble i know, but you never know what matey in the Astra might do when one of their fiends tells them how they could claim all sorts from you by lying, Chardonnay could have a new tattoo or the Astra could be lowered or wrapped on the proceeds.

You are lucky to have any sort of third party witness. Hopefully that will be all the defence you need should it be alleged that you rear-ended the Astra, which is presumably what you are worried about?

If you are confident of the bus driver's support then you could just send a note to your insurer saying you think you have been the intended vivtim of an unsuccessful 'crash for cash' quote the number of the other vehicle and the fact that they failed to stop, and leave it at that.

Retain your contemporaneous record of events.

Of no help to you in this case, but I am already glad I have added 'dashcams' to our two main cars.

If the bus cctv shows the Astra's reg No I would pass it on to the police.

They will take a dim view of any "road rage" & probably give him a visit.

Yes, from what you say the astra sounds like a "crash-for-cash" merchant.

I would definitely pass on any information you are able to obtain about the car to the police.

Phoned insurance to advise, took brief statement from me and was then asked about mot, was it mot'd. yes it was, had it been modified no and many of the questions as per my schedule and insurance document. I advised that i would not make a claim as no damage and nobody hurt,
