I have been issued a parking fine in Straford upon Avon High Street for failing to display a parking ticket of 50p. I had bought a ticket which had inadvertently fallen to the floor when I left the car. I have appealed but the authorities are sticking to the line that the attendant looked in the foot well but couldn't see a ticket. Should I just pay up and put it down to experience or appeal to the higher authority which if I lost would incur £50.00 instead?

How many appeals are accepted under these circumstances?

Pay and put it down to experience.

Appeals tribunals reject appeals where wind or anything similar is blamed for the ticked ending up in the footwell.

Pay a visit to Pepipoo lots of advice in there.

This will be a Local Authority parking fine and you've no chance of ignoring it - not that it seems you are considering that.

I doubt that you will be able to get around the fact that the ticket was not on display.

"How many appeals are accepted under these circumstances?" Difficult to say, but, as advised, check on Pepipoo. If there's no clear answer to your question (I suspect there won't be), be prepared to pay up.

It's a pity you've been clobbered for a trivial mistake, but that's the reality of life.

IIRc if you go the website for the Traffic Penalty Tribunal (and/or that of its London equivalent) there's a setion in the 'example cases' pages dealing with what it terms fluttering tickets.

I observed a few tribunal hearings in a professional capacity and had some contact with adjudicators and admin for same reason. Always struck me as being very fair to apellants and a good example of the fairness, openness and transparency agenda for Tribunals established by Sir Oliver Franks' report on the subject in 1958.

I thought all Skodas had a little clip low down on the inside edge of the windscreen for parking tickets. Very useful: maybe the Yeti doesn't have one.

I keep a very small lump of Bluetack in the car and use it to stick tickets onto the coaming for display.

Thank you all for this valuable advice. The fine is £25.00 - far better than some of the clampers fines which can be far more!

Interesting that appeals can be successful but I have 12 more days to pay up after which it goes up to £50.00. The appeals process doesn't timeout the clock.

Incidentally SKoda's do have a little plastic slide. I have just found it! I shall use it in future.
