Its going to have to compete against several top notch cars in that class e.g. Focus, Golf, Leon etc and even if its brilliant I am sorry to say its going to struggle.
Think back to the Almera. Nissan introduced it in the early/mid 90's to compete against the Escort (which was rubbish), the Astra (which was little better) and the Peugeot 306 (which was superb but unreliable). All the magazines said it was a match for the 306 with a promise of better reliability.
Dad bought one early in 1997. Got a huge discount off a pre-reg since Nissan (as expected) was struggling to shift them off the forecourts. It was great to drive and ride in and in the seven years he had it the only parts replaced were 4 front tyres (as expected), a door lock barrel (under warranty) and a leaking rear wheel cylinder. When it was 7 years old he still got an excellent PX price because the dealer knew that they were exceptionally reliable.
