BMW 5 Series E39 - Won't start when hot - vulcan b

Hi everyone, I'm new to this, although I have looked at this and other sites. I may be able to offer you a valuble solution to this difficult problem of warm starting.

I recently bought a 530d saloon with this affliction from a friend who has a garage. It had been standing for four years with this problem and what ever he tried failed. Cut a long story short(after all the forums I'd been on he tried everything suggested-still no joy!). But what he did find when he was in the car and everything was quiet is no fuel pump noise-not turning over with the ignition on. Ok, no big deal I hear you say, what new? The big difference is that there was no power to the pump(cause is suspected ECU not sending message to power the pump). He put a 12 volt feed from the battery to the pump and pow she fired up!! He tested this 30 times over a week to make sure, and road tested it. What he eventually did was to run a wire from the fuse box via the ignition switch to the pump. All working fine now.Hope this helps.
