Volkswagen Golf V - Air Conditioning blown? - worz

Hi,

Bit of advice please, I had the air con on the other day, when all of a sudden there was a noise like gas escaping, a funny smell and the air con now only blows hot.

I am going to take it somewhere next week, but any ideas what is wrong and what sort or bill i could be expecting.

I would just like to have a clue what the garage are likely to be charging/talking about.

Excessively high ambient temps over the last few days has highlighted any weakness in the a/c system.From your description ,it sounds like something has blown under pressure.Could be a hose,condensor or something else.Whatever it is ,I suspect it will be expensive.The days of a cheap fix on a modern car are long gone.Take it to an a/c specialist for investigation.

From your description of a noise and smell, I'd put my money on a leaking evaporator.

I've replaced one of these in an Eos...... Not a job I'd like to repeat I'll tell you.

Like a/c doc says, get it to an A/C specialist for diagnosis and good luck with it.
