A friend of mine has a strange problem in his 18 month old Clio.
When he switches the aircon to cold everything works well. Even in Summer, and cold air is produced instantly.
When he switches to hot, the air takes ages to come out warm. He says the engine temperature will have moved from cold by the time this happens, so it's as if the hot aircon is just not working and the hot air is coming from the engine. He quotes 10 minutes to clear the windscreen.
Are there any aircon people in the backroom today?
Has anyone come across cold only aircon?
Does anybody have any clue whether the aircon is broken, or if something else is wrong?
I've read through the aircon FAQs, but I'm still clueless!

Subsidiary and connected question.
What is the likely cause of aircon that blows cold, but not very cold? Is a service/regassing likely to increase performance, is it it something more expensive?

Joe, when you say not very cold, what sort of vent temps are you getting? The lowest it will go to is normally about 5 degC, and this is controlled by a couple of methods, temps switch, pressure switch or compressor valve.
Let us know what car it is, then I can tell you what type it is, then some info on how to check it out.

The a/c is ok, seems you have a problem with the heater. Is the engine getting warm ok, if so, then possible an airlock in the heater or blocked heater matrix. Could also be the hot/cold flap not moving to hot position.

Thanks Dave N. That's given him something to work on.
The car is still under warranty so if it's not an airlock I think it'll be back to the garage for about the 6th time!!
