Skoda Superb Estate - £10 fixed penalty - davidebt

Hi

I have just received a notification from Lex lease of a £10.00 fixed penalty notice supposedly incurred on the A14 near Kettering. No NIP has been received

Has anyone heard of a £10 fixed penalty?

Regards

Haven't come across a tenner FPN...sound iffy.

What offence is alleged?

"I have just received a notification from Lex lease..."

What is Lex lease?

Car hire? Finance company?

I'm pretty sure DVD has it right - there's something fishy here. A genuine fixed penalty notice would not come through an intermediary.

P.S. Apparently Moneysavingexpert has some stuff on something similar, involving Lex Autolease passing on parking charges from private companies, which Lex refer to as "Fixed Penalty Notices". The impression I get is that legally Lex should not be paying on their client's behalf, but simply passing the driver's details to the company concerned. Apparently there are cases where Lex pays and then claims the money from the driver, which has the whiff of some kind of scam. However, if only £10 is involved...

P.P.S. The only thing that comes to mind in connection with "A14 near Kettering" is speed cameras. But the FPN would be for more than £10.

Is it possible that the £10 is an admin fee charged by Lex and that another invoice may arrive for the full ammount, or the FPN will come from whoever issued it now they have details of the driver/registered keeper?

At the moment there's a contraflow on that section, outside lane restricted at least one way to vehicles under 6' 6"..or is it 7.5 ton? i dunno one or the other.

If you drove a wider or heavier uk registered vehicle down the outside would the cameras trigger an automated fine?...no scotch that it would still be more than a tenner.

There is no £10 FP, as another user has said, it sounds like a parking charge, though I would have expected it to be at least £30.

If you read Lex Lease T's and C's you will see it allows LL to pay any penalty charges and charge it on to the lessor

Submitt a query to Lex Lease for an explanation

I assume that the car is leased on a Contract Hire Agreement by Lex Autolease and they will, therefore, be the Registered Keeper.

Any offence or infringement by the driver of the car will be notified to Lex Autolease and they will, no doubt, have informed the agency responsible for the penalty of the details of the Lessee (either you, OP, or your employers, presumably).

For this administrative task, they will pass on a charge, and £10 is very much at the lower end of the scale utilised by leasing companies. It is more usually £25 or more.

The agency will, no doubt, be in touch regarding the offence in due course.

Many thanks for asll the replies. It was in fact an admin charge. The £100 speeding FPN came through the post two days later!.
