88mpg eh rejoice? No ..thats a manual gearbox. Whats the Auto version do? Probably far far less. The Hybrids are all Autos. So your comparison is Apples to Oranges. Good try though.
Why would an auto make any difference on the motorway where you'll spend most of the time in top gear?
(Personally them all being auto is a downside. Was riding manual motorbikes aged 6 and always thought autos were for people who were, well, a bit dim... The 'special' kids stayed on auto bikes. Can't stand the driving feel of auto cars either.)
When you are as old as I am, an auto makes traffic seem like child's play.. Yes I am a bit dim - it's my dementia...

The road test says:
"The car is perhaps a touch noisier than other variants in the range. A fair amount of engine thrum and road noise seems to enter the cockpit, although not to a particularly unpleasant level.
Road imperfections also make themselves known from time-to-time."
In other words, it's noisy, uncomfortable and useless on UK roads...
