Shuttle 2.3LS - Honda - Benet |
How long can I - should I - keep an old Honda? This is a T-reg, so 15 years old now, but it's immaculate and goes beautifully, though it burns a bit of oil. It does local short runs 11 months of the year, but every summer we take it on a European road trip, and cover around 1000 miles in a month. It's let us down once only (in UK), when the alternator gave out. We had to wait some time for the same unit to be reconditioned as spares are not so available now. I keep it properly serviced and there's not been any other problems. It's always sailed straight through the MOT, no advisories. So just one question - Would you rely on a car of this age to safely carry wife and kids about?? THanks, Ben |

Keep it well serviced, keep it as clean and rust free underneath as you can, well shod, brakes and suspension especially well maintained and run it till it dies, a bit of oil burning is nowt to bother about. 90's vehicles are IMO just about the very best years, safety performance and economy came on in leaps and bounds, but they weren't stuffed to the gills with silly superflous rubbish, now worth pennies so enjoy depreciation free motoring, and smile smugly to yourself when you look at your bank balance. |

imo yes, Hondas are I think one of the best cars on the road and most reliable,it should go on for many more years. |

You've done the hard work of keeping an older vehicle maintained and tidy. Why get rid of it just as that's starting to pay off? :) Get all the fluids changed though if not already done. |
