The electronic parking brake on my 2008 2ltr diesel model has developed a fault. The automatic release facility no longer works, so I have to use manual release by depressing the foot brake, this is tricky when on a slope. I have been told by my independent Audi garage that the clutch cylinder will need to be replaced as the faulty switch is part of it. Is this correct? And should this fault have developed on a vehicle of this age? (70000 miles)

There is a switch in the clutch cylinder,in fact some have 2 ,depending on whether car is fitted with stop start system. It is not a seperate replacement switch.Who knows if it should have failed at this age,but consider how many times the clutch has been operated.
