I was hit by a van driver and the NFU have agreed to make repairs to my vehicle and to supply a coutesy car. I have now been contacted by the company they use (CCL) to arrange this, and CCL have asked for my bank details in case of any speeding/parking tickets etc. I keep advising them that it is a courtesy car and not a hire car and as such I should not have to provide these details, am I correct?

Phone them up, record the conversation. As soo as you speak to someone, you MUST inform them that the onversation is being recorded. Now ask them, absolutely as clear as day : Is this car being provided as a courtesy car at no cost to me ? You can then rely on their answer in a court of law.

Many thanks

So if they answer that it is at no cost to me other than any fines I incur will I still have to provide bank details 'just in case'

Ally, I trust you can see the way this is going?

If your insurer cannot make the case against the van driver's insurance stick, or if there is some kind of insurance fudge, you and you alone will be responsible for the cost of the courtesy car - that is, unless it is written into your policy that the provision of a courtesy is automatic, no matter who is to blame for the accident.

I suggest you read your policy carefully.

Company policies will vary and taking details of a card or a deposit in clase of parking infringements would be a reasonable precaution if that's all it is. I had one from the Citroen dealer in Milton Keynes last week while my car had a towbar fitted. No credit card but I did have to sign an agreement covering stuff like damage, excess and liability for infirngements.

My local friendly indy just gives me the keys...

As FP says, read your policy and all documentation relating to any appointed claims management company VERY carefully. There has been a fair amount of publicity on on consumer programmes like Moneybox about scammery surrounding provision of replacement/courtesy cars.

EDIT - It seems CCL are a claims managemet company www.carcrash.co.uk/
