All those people who give unstintingly without any expectation of reward. My son's piano teacher taught hundreds of children for minimal cost, raised tens of thousands of pounds for charitable causes, engaged the community and brought young and old together. He was eventually awrded an OBE, which was richly deserved.
My daughter's running instructor is of a similar ilk: he turns out in all weathers every week for no financial gain; revels in the children's achievements and seeks nothing in return.
Every community has these people. They work quietly and conscientiously. Give the honours to those who serve - the police officers, fire fighters, teachers, doctors, nurses and those who do so much to bind communities and raise hopes.
Rant over.
