Basically,

I bought a CAT D bike from a guy last september, who had just go from online Salvage auction site.

(Dont know how the hell it was ever classified as a Cat D because besides the frame/clocks/lockset/ecu, everything else was either damaged/scuffed or junk)

Plan was to track it, but now its nearly fixed I need to sell it, (debts building up)

Now,

I am Really worried that I will get a huge fine if I apply for new V5 now and tell them I have had the bike since end september 2013.

Can anyone tell me if I will get a large fine or not?

Why tell them you've had it since September ? OK, a little bit dishonest, but it's DVLA, they're not exactly paragons of virtue and honesty either

Fill in the forms with todays date on them, and send off.

Hi Rob,

Guess I could. I Just worry (I'm a really bad pessomist and bad nervous wreck at times) that if The Auction site informed them last september that they had sold it and then it disappears for 6-7 months only for me to turn up and apply for v5 now??

I don't know how it works when an auction site sells Cat D vehicles on without V5's.

I don't know if listed as belonging to last owner, ins company who paid out for it or the auction house?

The bike even still taxed till July. New owner only had it 7 days before writing it off.

Guess will have to just apply and hope no problems... Will be a very stressfull 2-4 weeks waiting to see what happens :(

If it's taxed it should also be insured or there may be a "penalty" for that also.

Which is why I've suggested not telling them, and putting the current date as the date of purchase.

As far as they would be concerned, it's been sat in some salvage yard for the last few months.

God I hope I don't get a fine. Have sent form off now and put down yesterdays date.

Fingerscrossed for next 2-4 weeks.

It asked why didn't have V5 and told truth and said last owner never got one with bike when He bought it from salvage yard.
