Possible ignition switch failure. Regards Peter

hi its worth checking the main wiring loom all along it. comes through the bulkhead on the left runs under wipers and onto a big multi plug behind abs pump and from ther goes into fuse box under bonnet thats the area to be checking. I found chaffing occuring behind wipers, the one i came across had stiff wiper action causing flexing and bending in about motor and linkages. And also above gearbox bellhousing, it was fouling the gear linkages because most likely had a clutch replacment and a clip securing wiring loom was never re fitted and it was left hanging quite freely

Hi yes it was a wiring loom problem, the back passenger door loom was broke and the door was not locking and window was not working, when I got around to fixing these I found that someone had tryed before to fix it and give up and balled up the wires and shoved them into the sill without no tape, so as I was driving the wires would short out and kill the car. So when I fixed these the car stopped cutting out and went perfect :) , till today :( the car cut out while driving and when I try to start it it starts up for a couple of seconds and cuts again, and so on since. The diesel is fine, filter is clean and is following from tank to filter. All fuses are good, doing the pedal test I get codes 161450 and 161600 I never had I problem with the key or cim and when cleared didn't come back. I got it started once after I disconnected battery and ecu but it cut out again after two mins or less and back to starting and cutting out straight away. Other thing is sometimes when i restart after cutting out it might idle for I little till I press the acceleratre and cut out as soon as I press it or it might with the peddle to the ground start revving up a bit and dropping again like jumping and cut out again. Any help again would be great as I just don't know what's wrong.

I had a similar problem with one once. Same as yours, the engine would cut out at random. The problem turned out to be a faulty anti-shudder valve on the inlet manifold, which was closing and starving the engine of air. Again like yours, switching off the ignition and restarting the engine cycled the valve and it would run perfectly until the next time. It's worth a check to make sure yours is the same. Try temporarily jamming the valve open to eliminate the possibility of it being faulty. It serves no purpose while the engine is running normally and should be open, but it should close when the ignition is switched off to quickly shut off the engine.

Hi mine does not stay running anymore only for 1 to three seconds but your suggestion is worth looking at, do you have to take off the inlet manifold to jam it open? Thx

No, it's very easy to do. It's right at the front of the manifold.

Hi thx for the info, it indeed was the flaps that where wrong. After your info I went looking at the intake and the bar which opens the flaps had come off which lead to the flaps not opening and is why the car would start and cut out straight away. Thanks so much for your info it saved me a lot of bucks not having to take it to the garage:).

Glad you got it sorted, and thank you for posting back. I wish more people would when they solve their problems.

The problem over engine cutting in and out whilst driving, Kangeroo fuel can be solved by removing the throttle body. Take it apart and you will find the circuit board coated in oil. Use brake cleaner or similar solvet and air pressure it dry. Problem sorted on my Zafira.

Thought I had sorted the problem after replacing the throttle body it drove for 20 miles then started cutting out again in first and second gear!

I also have the same problem, I cleaned throttle body and it has just worked for 6 days in a normal way and I faced the same problem after 6 days. Could you share how you fixed the problem, please? Thanks in advance.
