Mazda 6 2.2D estate TS2 - Mazda 6 2010 engine failure due to oil blockage - RMK

I have had this car from new direct from Mazda, it has been serviced by Maxda and has 64,000 on the clock, the last service carried out by MAZDA was in Dec 2013. 2 weeks ago the car lost power and we stopped immediately but black smoke came out of the exhaust pipe. We paid for additional 1 year Mazda roadside assistance and I had the car towed to the mazda dealership in Coventry. They have since stripped the engine and over numerous question and answer sessions, they have explained the problem and a full report has been sent to Mazda UK last Thursday 27/2/14, after two weeks of invetsigation. The problem being carbon in the oil sump, blocked strainer, blown turbo charger, replacement ERC valve, scored camshaft, the list goes on.

The car has 64,000 ( low mileage for a diesal) on the clock and the DPF filter has regenerated 3 times during the period from April 2010 to Feb 2014.

Mazda Coventry are on my side as they sold the car, have the full service history carried out by themselves and have admitted this is a major mechanical failure. This car is a company car but with no engine as an asset it now has a ZERO value, The dealership can only now offer me a loan car after 18 days.

They have rang me today to ask if we would be prepaired to CONTRIBUTE 45% towards the cost, they are prepaired to off £4,450 of the cost. As you can imagine the answer is a deffinate no.

Pending my statement today, I await the responce from Mazda UK, but DO NOT BUY A MAZDA 6 DIESAL.

Only three regens in four years? That seems incredibly low.

3 regens in 4 years sounds like the car has had ideal conditions for a DPF - i.e lots of motorway driving. I always thought a regen was generally unnecessary if the DPF is being used in its perfect conditions?

Possibly. I'd expect the filter to catch some particulates before the engine is up to temperature and running "clean".

Most (if not all) cars with DPF's have a programme that ensures a regen is carried out at a fixed interval regardless of use. This prevents DPF isues. Our BMW did a regen every 300 miles despite being used on a daily commute of 15 miles each way. Our Kia does a regen every 300 miles and did so even when the wife had a 19 mile each way commute. The Kia can do 2 regens on a 430 mile trip to Scotland (90% motoray and dual carraigeway) if one is due shortly after setting off. Our Kia has without any doubt done over 100 regens iin the 32000 miles we have owned it.

3 regens in over 60,000 miles is not realistic.

Quite right skidpan, my CX-5 has regular timed regens, although i believe early DPF cars may not have, which is possibly why so many had the DPF light come up on the dash.

Hi

Exact Same problem (by the sounds of it) mine 10 plate CX7 45k Miles. I am currently in the refusal state of dealings, can I ask did you get a final resolution from Mazda UK

Very poor state of affairs

There are so many of these engines around that are failing for the same problem that I feel thay are not fit for purpose.
