Citroen Picasso xsara 1.6HDi 90 HP - Negative battery wire bolted to the chassis - rustbucket

Does any menber know where the negatve battery wire is bolted to the cahassis / body (battery is under passenger seat) .The positve wire runs under the floor and emerges at a terminal block under bonnet. But the negative dissapears under the floor, Heynes manual says near battery. not a lot of use as every where is carpeted and stuck downThe reason apart from curiosity is that I have had engine turn over problems and want to check for corrosion, I have put a heavty load on and checked for volt drop from battery terminal to engine block, but would still like to know where the bonding point is.

Any help appreciated.

PS.asked local Citroen dealer and got blank faces all round!!!

Since the whole of the body and chassis is earth it doesn't matter where the cable is actually fixed to, as long as the connection is good. The earth cable between the engine block and vehicle body must also be good. On cranking the voltage drop should not exceed 0.5v. Anything more indicates a poor connection which needs attention.

Thanks for the info, I have done that and the volt drop is within so certain a good connection is made throughout but stil would like to know where it is. Somebody must know or inspected it.

I'd suggest that if you removed the battery you'd probably find it. Let's face it, the manufacturer isn't going to pay for an inch (or should that be centimetre) more cable than's absolutely necessary.

Thanks for the suggestion ,have removed battery and it sits in a plastic tray with high sides that extend under the carpet all the way around. The tray is rigid so cannot see an easy way of removing it, the two cables go through a hole each at respective ends of battery and vanish. it looks as if the battery tray went in before the floor and carpet were installed. As you say the manufactures is not going to spend more money than necessary.

If you search for a negative battery cable online, It will give you some idea of how short the cable is.
