Hi all, back in September I bought a C5 2.2HDi from a family friend who bough the car new in 2004. Until I bought it he had only done 18,500 miles and it had sat in a garage most of it's life. Since I picked the car up in September I've taken it to 31,000 with mostly motorway journeys. I started the car up the other afternoon (I guess it was at about half temperature when I started it) and the depollution fault warning has popped up together with the engine warning light and the service light. No other details are offered.

The strange thing is that despite this warning popping up every time I start it, I've since done about 800 miles and still there are no symptoms of any kind. The car still drives as if nothing is wrong.

Any ideas? I would have thought the mileage is low enough for the DPF / Eolys to be ok unless the DPF can age without mileage?

Thanks in advance

Your describing the kind of previous use that kills DPF's before their time.

first thing to try is a manual DPF re-ceneration cycle.

Local diesel specialist would be best bet,or the dealer.

I drove home from Derby yesterday (a journey of 175 miles which the longest motorway stretch about 55 miles). Would it not have tried a regeneration at that point?

If not how do I do a manual regen?

A fixed amount of Eolys is injected into the tank everytime the car is refueled. If the previous owner refueled regularly in small amounts the Eolys tank may be empty despite the car having done only about 30,000 miles.

The warning is telling you there is probably a fault, if you carry on driving the fault will in all likelyhood become serious. You need to get the car inspected ASAP. If its only a Eolys refill and a forced regen it will be a cheap solution.

Thanks - I just spoke to the previous owner and he reckons he filled it up maybe 40 times in the 9 years he owned it.

I've filled it up perhaps 20 times in the last 6 months so in it's life it's had approximately 60 tank fulls. Both of us have filled it completely each time.

Come to think of it when it's cold I can hear a slight rattle underneath which I assumed was a cat baffle working loose.
