Living in France I would like to buy a CC in UK and ship it over here, problem is that the headlamp units have to be altered to comply in France.

When I moved here some years ago I brought my 406 with me but had to buy new headlamp units to comply with French norms, at considerable expense.

Is it possible to manually change the existing units on a UK reg CC from left to right hand drive or do I need to buy new right hand units.

new headlights will be needed, unless it has xenons, then you may get away without replacement.hth

If you're definately going to buy one, you could start the ball rolling on a make specific forum now, might even find someone doing it the other way round and swap parts.

But note that the french are looking out for residents driving foreign registered vehicles (which is what I assume you will have) and if so you should register within a fixed time period, One of my friends has just had an invitation to register his vehicle and pass the french mot and has bit the bullet and bought a french registered car, (as it happens he has chosen a Vw polo which was on a special offer, but is horrified with insurance costs.)

Is that all of France a part of France or just hearsay If your friend drives to a convenient border and crosses and then comes back into France there is little the authorities can do or are can be bothered to do.

It is in the south, but many will be aware that it is happening in Spain and Portugal as well with all foreign residents, especially as they want the money!

The rules apply equally to each european country, although the uk rarely seems to enforce them. A case I personally know of here was a french car collecting parking tickets almost on a daily basis, but when it got clamped and the local authority refused to release it without the previous fines being paid cured the problem.

That's the nice bit about europe, theoretically we should all obey the rules.

In 45 years of living in mainland europe I have been stopped once for speeding I have had every registration from different countries,a friend who lives in Spain says they come around and check his car docs about every six months tell him he should register it and then goes. While you have an address for the car in the UK or your home country there is little or nothing anybody can do as long as the car is taxed insured and mot.
