Any - Drink driving advert in Legal section of Backroom - csgmart

Does anyone else find the advert in the legal section of the backroom (company is called www.drinkdrivingsolicitor.co.uk/) offensive?

Personally I feel that if someone gets caught for drink driving they should accept the penality that goes with their stupidity.

I know that HJ is a commercial site and has to make money by carrying adverts, but I really do think this is inappropriate for a motoring site (although the target audience is probably the right one).

It's legal and relevant - it'll be Big Brother if websites start passing moral judgements about what is or isn't allowed.

Those who want to get away with drink-driving will still find solicitors like this even if websites banned their adverts.

It's for CPS and the courts to do their job properly and ensure that drink-drivers get the punishment they deserve.

Fair points.

I suppose if it were me that got caught I would just accept that I had been an idiot and face the music.

It just felt to me that the advert might just sway some people into trying to avoid their punishment - and that is morally wrong in my book.

By the way, I work in the marketing industry and we regularly get turned down by web site owners who refuse to carry adverts (for our clients) of a certain type (nothing illegal or sexual by the way). Those sites just have a policy of not accepting certain types of adverts (e.g. for PPI, pay day loans etc), so the Big Brother moral judgement of adverts you aluded to already takes place (and has done for many years).

Any offence is utterly contrived.

And the back room isn't exactly a church pew of penitent sinners. The moral outrage when somebody finds that they had to decleare their Speed Awareness Course to their insurance company (who treat it just like three points) is hilarious.

Our moderators already do this on our behalf, at least about what we contribute to threads. Of course if income is involved, the goalposts start to drift ?

Moderators of all forums will remove/modify posts/threads which are getting close to legal limits because they can't risk over-stepping - on that, I'll accept any steps taken by Avant or other moderators even if, especially if, my own posts are involved.

The ad concerned is perfectly legal and legitimate - as abhorrent as the concept is to any of us.

I do wonder how defence lawyers sleep at night yet they stoutly defend some real animals.
