Did you see a question in the motoring section on Saturday (1/2/14) about how people don't seem to use roundabouts properly any more? I wrote it. But I kept my real opinion to myself. The fact is, people from all over the EU and beyond have brought their driving habits with them, and the natives are copying them. Road manners where I live have become terrible. If you are on a roundabout, people entering from your left very often don't wait their turn, they just drive on. This might bother you or it might not. But the fact is, it's the result of our enrichment and diversity, which we celebrate on a daily basis.

The problem is that the UK is the only country in Europe if not the world that has a large number of roundabouts, here in Germany drivers when they come across a roundabout they haven't a clue how to use them.

Lets have some more comments like this on a motoring forum. Totally relevant.

Well it is relevant - one of my best pals was knocked off his bike twice two years ago, both times by African immigrants with no licence, insurance etc. The second accident left him barely mobile and unable to work or support his family - how enriching is that eh?

Come clean about it then, what do you propose? Do you want to send all the people who have arrived in this country after a certain date back to their country of origin simply because they knock peopleoff thier cycles.

His comment suggests that, Those people who don't know how to use roundabout probably don't have a legitimate right to be driving on our roads. I don't think there is any hidden message there. It is certainly not suggesting anyone be deported. Just simply, If you don't have a valid UK or EU licence then you should not be driving on the UK roads.

If he had mean't that then he could have quite simply typed "my best mate was knocked of his bike by an uninsured, and unlicnced driver twice leaving him barely mobile." Instead he made special note that the driver was an African imigrant. That simple inclusion puts a different tone to the posting i.e. its racist.

Is it "racist" to say that all the "british" people i know generally know how to drive, generally pay their parking tickets/speeding fines and have valid insurance/mot on their uk registered vehicles. I know of one frenchman who rather than pay his parking fines (and there were a lot of them) simply left the country.

I am sure that the vast majority of visitors to the uk do have valid insurance/driving licences etc, but there IS a minority of uk and european drivers who don't.

Drive carefully all.

Anyone else heartily sick of people trying to close down any debate by crying 'way cist' all the time? I am.

Anyway you played the Race Card and that means double points and prizes!.....Are you about to go on and namecheck Adulf Hidler and go for a Brucey bonus?

Not trying to close down any debate, just trying to put a stop to the type of comments that spoil any sensible debate.

Hopfully Avant will put a stop to the comments without any more comments form me.

Ethan,

The trouble is that even when calling out overt racism the 'race card' accusation will be laid. Dealing with the more subconscious or subtle forms of racism people will use it to try and close down criticism or education.

I reserve the right to call a long handled digging implement a long handled digging implement. I mean Golly gosh It's merely being descriptive. Frankly I am completely Foxtrot Oscared with PC political correctness in all it's loathsome forms.

I think I should go now to watch a panto...something along the lines of 'Snow Purple and the seven vertically challenged but great people nontheless'. Traditional stuff.

..dude I'd like my country back please.

..dude I'd like my country back please.

Even those of us who are not ethnically pure, such as myself and youngrovergirl would like "our" country back, but it is (sadly) never gonna happen.

What we now have is what we are stuck with.

YRG looks back to the good old days when as a catholic christian she was protected by who else but Saddam H. I look back to the post war days when i woke as a child of 10 wondering if the two K's were going to nuke us all and the nightmares, and the hopes we had for a better world.

Do i want the country back that I remember , with near permanent strikes, cr*p cars, but then they all were were they not.

I have had the privilege of living and working in many places all around the world, but, Home is still home, people are still basically decent, and nothing I can do in the time left for me in this world can change anything, other than being tolerant of my "neighbour"

And who am i to cast the first stone, a stranger in a strange land.

Final word in asking for a bit of tolerance, ... My childrens grandmother survived THOSE camps and also forgave.

The question seems to be about danger on the roads due to foreigners not understanding roundabouts, and presumably others possibly customary systems of making our way about.

Unfortunately the roads have got worse, and it happens to have coincided with uncontrolled immigration, so whether its johnny foreigner causing the problem or the fact that millions more people are crammed into a space not big enough to manage them, the problem is ours and it isn't going away.

The problem is we have a quart of people now crammed into our pint pot island, and the numbers are still rising and will continue to do so.

If looking for someone to blame for the situation try the mirror, most people voted for exactly what they've now got ,a country swamped with people, a country overpopulated but without the planning and infrastructure to manage those numbers...welcome to your world.

Its no good saying 'not me' i didn't vote for this, if you voted for one of the main three parties (yes the three cheeks of the same backside party) over the last 20 years, you share part of the blame.

You'll do so again next year, and expect a different result.

Not necessarily, those who ruined the country didn't have the abstainers approval.

Take your point though, i've always voted but for any except the creepy sales-staff/professional politicians, as have been fronting the three cheeks for their masters for years now.

GB,

You and I live within 25 miles of each other but I don't recognise the place described.

When I turn right towards town at Sandy Lane r/bout there are certainly chancers joining from Sandy Lane. They're not foreigners. They'e eirther (a) trucks from a local logistics co's base or (b) people with big cars and houses from Harpole and points east. Both have the same 'no look no see' approach to surging out onto the r/bout

The recent immigrants are Poles etc living round Jimmy's End. They're no [roblem at all (except at the checkout in Aldi)

.

This has ceased to be a discussion about motoring, so it;s going over to Non-motoring. I'll let it run for now unless it gets ugly, as it threatened to before being rescued.

You misunderstand me Bromp.

The drastic reduction in driving competence coincides with the country being swamped with people (and the disappearance of real coppers), native Brits are just as bad as any of the foreigners though the driving faults could well be different.

I can tell a foreign driver in one of those lorries out of Swan Valley by the way without seeing the driver, not necessarily worse just different.**

The dog eat dog me first rush to get somewhere is just another symptom of a country rammed full of people without the infrastructure to facilitate their movement, the lack of basic manners encountered in everyday life is a parallel to this, you can't keep stuffing more and more people into a given space without consequences, enjoy it as its going to get a whole lot worse.

Our own county, Nothamptonshire, has seen massive traffic changes over the last 20 years, again woefully poor planning by those paid fantastic salaries to do exactly that, plan.

M6/M1/A14 junction for example, whoever thought that was going to cope was a seriously and dangerously deluded individual/team, for each and every soul thats perished at that junction the designer(s) should be doing porridge.

We have the current A14 widening fiasco at Kettering, years too late, again, and just to bring Kettering to a complete standstill they also shut the A509 railway bridge for 3 months for repairs at the same time...you'd have to be a brilliant lunatic to come up with that strategy, but its typical of the mess and laughing stock that this country is fast becoming....almost Carry On film standards of incompetence abound.

**incidentally some of the best lorry drivers i have worked with have been Romanian, like some of us old school lorry types many of them been through the mill and learned properly, they also happen to be among the most polite decent people i know.
