SAAB 9-5 - Reversing lights not working on automatic Saab 9-5 - martin tonbridge

I've recently bought a nice example of a 9-5 Aero HOT saloon (auto) and have only just noticed that the reversing lights don't work. All other rear lights are working, so wondered if anyone knew what the problem might be, and how easy to fix?

First thing to check would be the fuse, then take a look at the bulbs and holders. On this model ,the reverse lights work from the auto shift multi function selector switch that sits on top of the gearbox.Do the lights come on if you wiggle the shift lever between park and neutral?Another possibilty,if the reverse lights are in the boot lid,it is not uncommon on these to find broken wiring where it runs through the plastic tube on the left boot hinge.hth

Do the reversing sensors work?

Thanks for answers above. The parking sensors are working OK when reverse is selected (sometimes even when there's nothing behind me), but reversing lights are not working at all. I've tried shifting back & forth between N & R, but still nothing. Any ideas appreciated.

If the parking sensors are working, then I would say that rules out the gearbox switch and fuses.I would think there is a broken wire to the lights ,in boot lid.hth

Hi

SAAB 9-5 - Reversing lights not working on automatic Saab 9-5 - syros

Hi (trying again)
I have a similar issue with my 2003 automatic sedan. (no reverse lights, bulbs checked, reverse sensor works)
However, in mu situation the reverse sensor is active when in forward gears too. (when obstacle behind car)
Would you stilll think the trunk wire harness is the first place to look?

Thanks a lot.

I would check the wires under the boot first..have you had a look?
