I think I would invest in some basic testing before deciding to dismantle the a/c clutch.As suggested above,if there is no gas in the system,the compressor will not engage.Take the car to a good independent a/c specialist.hth

So the garage that carried out the Regas have left the car with the a/c not working and are not able to offer any suggestion as to why it does not work?

Exactly right, they didn't seem that interested in doing anything other than regassing.

Wrt/ locating the compressor clutch, am I right in thinking then that its further to the front than the panel I'd removed (as pictured in original post)?

They clearly don't know what they're doing, then.

I understood that you can't even regass properly if the compressor isn't working - it needs to run to evacuate all the old refrigerant and circulate the new.

To regas properly takes at least an hour to purge the system of any old gas:

Did they do this? If not, money back and tell Trading Standards.

i had a similair issue on my mazda miata. the way i knew it was the compressor clutch was as the car started and the air con was depressed the clutch threw out and load was applied.

can you see yours if you start it or get someone to swithc the air con on and off. a raise in revs is also normal. does any of this happen.
