Has it lost any power or is it smoking? Is the engine temperature reading normal? Thats a terrible consumption unless its automatic, I would think you should be getting 40+.

Have you actually tested it by brimming the tank, then again and checking the mileage? Using the fuel gauge as an indicator is not very reliable.

Try filling it up and driving at a steady 60 mph on a flatish section of motorway or any quiet road for a few miles, then fill it again, you should be doing 50-60mpg if all is well, much less than that and you have a problem.

no its not lost any power its smokes on hard acceleration and on cold start up even on warm days , as i said had recon head and egr clean but not serviced it lately would that help

You could have the fault codes read and see if anything turns up but I think you need to do an accurate test first. If you do have a problem take it to a diesel specialist rather than a dealer, the are usually cheaper and know what they are doing.

Your style of driving can affect the consumption a great deal, if you drive hard, use high revs and do short journeys you could concievably get the fuel consumption that low especiallyy if the weather is cold.

thanks peter .n i have had codes read and nothing came up would a service really do any good

There is not much in a service that would improve fuel consumption very much except possibly a clogged air filter.
