Ford Focus - 2.0TDCI vs 1.6TDCI reliability - werewhelk

Hi, can anyone offer any advice on the reliability of the 2.0TDCI engine?

I'm looking at buying a 2.0TDCI Focus 2009 with 54K and ford FSH, but seeing all the bad stories about the 1.6 has put me off a bit .

Is the 2.0 TDCI likely to throw up the same issues as the 1.6 TDCI re: the DPF etc?

I'm looking to keep it for a few years, and the last thing I want is a huge garage bill at 100K.

Cheers,

Tim

Both vehicles if they have been looked after will do starship mileages the problem is that many 1.6s were company cars and recieved very little or no service in their first life , but they have made millions of these engines and only a small percentage fail carefull scrutiny of the service book if its been serviced by a third party such as QF leave well alone.

Thanks for that Collos25.

It did cross my mind tht these stories might only a reflect a minority of owners - it tends to be the bad stuff that people want to voice an opinion on, understandably.

This might be a dumb question, but what is "QF" ?

Sorry - this is my first car for about 7 years!

Was there a point when the DPF regeneration system on these engines changed from additive (Eolys) based, to the non-additive type?

For example, the 2.0 TDCi motors in the Mondeo IV from 2007 onwards all used the non-additive type.
