Why do some drivers not use Bluetooth. Many if not most modern cars have this fitted. Yet day after day I see people driving around with mobile phones stuck to their ear. The last one I spotted was a 61 plate TDI Golf earlier today.

It only takes a few minutes to do the initial pairing between mobile and car. Then after that it's done automatically each time you get in the car.

You have answered your own question.

Bluetooth is great when it has been set up, but setting it up is clunky.

You need to know the car has bluetooth and you need to get round to pairing it which means setting up the phone and knowing a passcode.

Both mean it is too easy not to do it. I have two mobiles, personal and business. When I get in the car it links to the phone which it was last paired to. If that phone isn't in the car it switches to the other. If I have both I have to change it depending if I am working or not, if I forget I end up hearing the phone in the boot, then trying to pair it whilst driving, which isn't safe.

Bluetooth has been around years, it hasn't evolved.

I don't find Bluetooth clunky. It is really very simple. It has evolved, as initially it was used via an ear piece that was linked to a mobile. Most of the units could only be paired to one mobile and could not be switched between two phones. Surely it is easy if you own a car or have a company car to find out if it has Bluetooth. As a responsible road user you should decide which mobile needs to be paired and not forget. You have a responsibility to other road users. I have had many company cars and It really is simple to find out if it has Bluetooth. It used to be an extra, but now as I said earlier nearly every car has it fitted as standard. Your attitude is irresponsible to others. If you hear the phone in the boot, surely you should not attempt to pair this whilst driving? Which as you state is not safe.

My head unit has Bluetooth built-in and it's absolutely excellent with my current phone (Nexus 4). My old phone was a Samsung Galaxy S and I found that it didn't work that well. If I turned Bluetooth on, on the phone, then it usually wouldn't connect automatically and I'd have to navigate through the menus. If I turned my car on with Bluetooth enabled, the car would connect to the phone in a sense, so it was very easy.

My new phone automatically connects as soon as Bluetooth is switched on. Can't say it's any harder than that and it even connects when the head unit is switched off, and turns it on if I ever get a call. A great companion for the long trips I make

Fitted at the same time I replaced the crap Citroen tape deck. All done with adapter plugs and one inline crimp. Easy peasy.

Wouldn't be without it...it's very useful

People texting and updating Facebook while driving is a bigger concern.

I have set Blutooth up in a Kia and a Seat on probably 5 Nokia phones, really simple and works a treat. But I only use it to answer calls, never make any even though the Seat imports your phonebook and displays it on the screen.

My phone doesn't have bluetooth ;(

I just switch the thing off.

I still think using mobiles in cars should be banned completely not just handheld.

I agree. Talking can be so distracting. I just text :]

What amazes me, are the nutters driving top end motors that are in excess of 30-40K and still can't find a few bob to have hands free. Or be bothered to embrace their optional extra and pair their phone. Maybe stupid covers that base.

Saw the ultimate today, Bentley Continental barrelling along at well over the limit passing a school ( I know they're on half term, but.....) with his phone glued to his ear.

Didn't manage to get his VRN otherwise I think I might have been very tempted to give the BiB a call.

Sheer b***** arrogance, IMHO, just sticking two fingers up to he rest of us, if you can afford that car and the latest phone then I'm sure he could find a few quid for a cheap headset.

I've used BT for the last 5 years, it only takes minutes to pair a phone.

The only problem is when you have a Samsung Galaxy Y that doesn't always connect.

sorted that with a HTC wildfire s, that also downloads text messages.

People who use hand held set while driving should have their hands cut off.

Bluetooth is rubbish in many cars and on many phones, and many older cars can't be paired with newer phones. The whole bluetooth thing could have been much better than it is.

Never had any problem whatsover with bluetooth in cars both fixed or addons or with phones 99% of problems are caused by people who do read and ubderstand the manuals.

When anybody gets in my car and they have a bluetooth phone they recieve a message do they want to connect and the password is 0000.absolutely no problems

I use it all the time, in fact when I hire cars, or borrow loan car from garage I usually pair the phone first. The only problem is that it cuts out the radio, rather than allowing me to tell the call to wait whilst I listed the something I want to hear, eg traffic news

I also make sure my address book etc are deleted from any loan car - now that can be a nuisance to do.

A useful device on the Motorola TK30 are four dil switches that allow you to have 1 to 4 channels turned on or off during bluetooth operation this way you can listen to both outputs at once or turn either one down or off.

Used to have a hands free holder/charger unit which was good. Changed mobile and installed a Parrot Bluetooth kit. Marvellous, easily paired my last 2 Nokias and now my i phone. Plays calls through the car speaker system, cuts out the radio etc. The only thing about the i phone is that the calls are connected and live as they come through, so if it someone you don't wish to speak with you are goosed!! Mother in law alert!!!!! Cheers Concrete

Swop it for a Motorola then you can reject calls you do not want come to think of it you can with a all Parrot systems if the are programed correctly
