While looking recently, I was amazed by the lack of space in some cars. I'm 6'3 with long legs.
Renault Laguna and New Megane; no kneeroom for the driver.
Skoda Octavia; no kneeroom. Hard to switch from gas to brake.
Skoda Superb; left foot rest was far too small for my size 14s.
I can't remember which cars at the motorshow I couldn't fit into. I think it may have been the Mazda 6, VW Golf, Discovery.
Anyone got any others?

The back of an Audi A4 - I'm 5'10" and legroom was tight for me, as was headroom. In fact, the back of almost any mid-sized car - the first time I've been able to sit comfortably was in a Passat, and my head still just brushed the ceiling. Peugeot 307 - couldn't fit my foot between the clutch and the side of the centre console, so I had to shuffle my foot over and under the clutch - incredibly awkward. Headroom for the driver is limited in my 525, which for what was once a top dollar car is unforgiveable.
A lot of the time, superminis are marketed on the basis that they give "big-car feel". I have to admit that this is true - most of the saloons I've been in haven't had much more room than any of the bigger superminis, eg Fabia, Punto, Ibiza. Maybe the saloons will end up being sold as "More spacious than a supermini"!

I was referring to the drivers' seat. I don't really care about the rest of the car.
Larger cars could be seen as wasting space by fitting bigger, deeper and comfier seats. Many superminis have the back of the drivers' seat scooped out to make space.

I have found that 3 door cars have more driver room than 4/5 ones, even the smaller cars.
I think this could be to do with the B pillar being further back. All my coupe cars have had loads of driver room and not much in the back.

I've noticed much the opposite in some cars - perfectly decent room front and back but pathetic sized boots - take the new primera for example. I'd buy that car if I could fit a decent amount of luggage in the back. Even the estate is small.

Loads of room in the back of my Master van. DISCO, WINE BAR! You name it. Sorry, not very helpful I know, but i'm in one of those moods 'cause i'm cookong lunch and the Ayatollahatomei keeps sticking 'er nose in. Still a nice G+T should calm the nerves.
Regards.

XsaraBen,
Count yourself lucky. Was in the departure lounge at Düsseldorf airport once and a German chap lifted down one of those free-to-read newspapers, and a few seconds fell about laughing. Naturally after he replaced the paper my curiosity got the better of me ...
The paper showed a picture of the interior of a latest German 'concept car' and sitting behind the wheel was none other that Helmut Kohl behind the wheel (I say *behind* the wheel, but he was also over it, + around it, completely engulfing it, etc.)
