It would be helpful, DVD, to have your input on the implications of this document.

If I understand correctly, it does not cover speed cameras. However, the speeds which qualify the offender for speed awareness courses/fixed penalty/summons may relate to offences detected by speed camera, it seems. (Though I don't think there's anything new here.)

As for the rest of it, it seems to cover only those situations where a police officer is dealing with a speeding offender face-to-face - a situation that seems increasingly rare these days.

The table of speed limits, speeds at which awareness courses may be offered, speeds at which fixed penalty and speeds at which court summons is appropriate - has underneath "All speeds identified above are those shown on the speed device, speedometer or other detection devices."

So I think cameras fall under "other detection devices".

I certainly read that, too. However, that wasn't my point.

The parts of the document where clearly an officer is understood to be dealing with a speeding driver face-to-face, and may exercise discretion - even as far as not taking any action at all - doesn't seem to me to apply to a speed camera NIP sent through the post.

As for the table of speed limits and speeds qualifying for different courses of action, that (if I recollect aright) is the same as it has been in the past.

It npw seems the threshold is [(limit+10%) + 2mph].

I had an idea it used to be [(limit+10%) + 3mph]?

Until recently it was limit+10%+1mph, as it is under the revised guidelines - but this was often referred to as "limit+10%+2mph", erroneously as this is the penalty speed!
