Another improbable story. A colleague followed her husband home the other day and noticed sparking from the BMWs run flat tyres. Husband was doubtful at the tale but swapped cars around and saw it for himself. A 'garage' could not see any problems.

At work we debated whether the carcase wires were protruding (easy to spot surely) or if flinty stones were lodged in the tread.

If there is any more info I will post it but sounds like an early April Fool to me.

Suggest you find out what she was taking and get some. I remember some great halucinations in my youth but never sparking tyres.

I wonder if it was static? Dry air and static discharge?

I'd think it was static; I've seen this once or twice following HGV's at night - not common, needs really dry air/road and no street lighting (and the right conductivity of tyres)

Nail lodged in the tyre? Tyres tend to self-seal around nails, and if the head is on a high spot and not in a groove, it would regularly strike the road surface.

I did warn over the German's tendancy to go with ultra-low-profile tryes! Probably a 395/1/R22 ZZZ rating tyre, thinking that these could get much grip that they could race upside down through the tunnel at Monaco! :-)

A real MOT garage reports the tyres were worn down to the metal wire.

Words fail me.
