Renault Trafic - compensation - st4ve

I am a self employed taxi driver, I bought a Renault Traffic 8 Seater for my business, it is only 17 months old and has a gearbox problem, it has been in the garage for nearly 2 months now because the part that is needed is on back order, I have been told that the part has arrived and it should be fixed soon. I have not been able to work for nearly 2 months. It is covered under warranty, but it has taken so long to get the part and to get fixed, I called Renault UK to ask for compensation, their reply is: they do not give out money compensation, the question is, do I have enough to take this to the small claims court? Would I win compensation? And if I lost would I be liable for their cost if they contested the claim and won?

It is my experience that Renault UK Customer Services are very understanding in cases like this and very often provide a like-for-like courtesy vehicle if there is going to be a delay in a warranty fix. However, it's a bit late for that now.

You don't say whether you purchased the vehicle new or used, but any issue you have with the vehicle can only be taken up with whoever sold it to you, as it is with them that your contract exists. Renault UK provide a back-up warranty service for their products but you cannot sue them (unless you bought it from them) and they are, by the sound of it, fulfilling the terms of the warranty.
