Skoda Yeti - Anorak moment from me over Skoda TV advert - RicardoB

Maybe it's me, but isn't the current TV advert for the Yeti being it a bit ironic?

This is the one where someone drives into a garage and asks the "geezer mechanics" whether they can fix his car.

The scene then cuts to the mechanics smashing up the old car before cutting to the new Yeti as being the answer.

But the old car appears to be a... Skoda (Favorit by the look of it) which IIRC sort of launched Skoda's journey to mass popularity 20-odd years ago.

I wonder whether that was on purpose of a bit of ignorance from the ad agency?!

(I know - I need to get out more)

I noticed this too, it may some kind of in house joke, but I personally felt it was bad marketing, especially as the Felicia was, as you say, Skoda renaissance model and an excellent one considering the budget it was developed with.

Would BMW do an advert taking a 15 year old 3-series and mocking that its a heap of old junk then smashing it up?

Watch a few episodes of "pimp my ride" it will all become crystal clear. The "projects" are usually much loved classics being brought bang upto date.

They may be in trouble if they rubbished any other manufacturer's car.

In that case I suggest Skoda UK havge wasted their advertising cash. Hardly anyone knows that and so the joke/whatever message is lost on the average viewer.

Skoda UK seems to be losing the plot bigtime anyway what with their pricing shooting skywards and the pretense that the current Fabia tarted up to look like a ho knickers (silly paint schemes ala mini) will attract more buyers.

Or maybe this is what VAG want - that Skoda go back to being a joke brand.
