Vauxhall Insignia - 59 plate Vauxhall, gearbox gone - wires13

Hi purchased a Vauxhall Insignia in Feb this year and the warranty has just expired, gearbox has gone on the motorway needing RAC assistance and repairs are being completed. Would i have a case to the car dealer for compensation for repairs...?

Did you contact the dealer prior to commencing repairs. When you say the gearbox has gone, what do you mean exactly. Regards Peter

Hi, thanks for replying. We phoned them and they said they were not interested and dont feel obliged to be held liable. I have had to commmence repairs as i need the car and been told by the RAC that it could amount to near on 2k (??) sounds a tad steep tbf

. Gearboxes,are oftern more expensive than engines and £2K for either, fitted, seems about right.or even cheap, to me

Since you have not given the seller the opportunity to carry out repairs (or even an investigation) you can forget any chance of getting any money back.

2K is incredibly steep, you should be able to pick up a gearbox from an identical write off for a few hundred and then get it fitted by a local garage.

Simple job.

Its been confirmed as 1700.00 total, full gearbox has gone, as for giving garage a chance they didnt want to know. offered chance to look at it but would not entertain in the slightest. Not much i could do really in the circumstances but get it fixed...Thanks anyway !
