HJ did a really positive write up of this great all round SUV

Unfortunately all the major mags just don't bother to compare it with the bigger punching manufacturers such as Mazda Nissan and Honda.

It has many great features but the most important for many must be that it is narrower and a proper in town car as well as being very capable off road.

I think motoring journalists are too fond of the big names.

Importers don't have any money to do stuff like support big foreign jaunts for the journos or TV advertising so like Subaru, Mitsubishi have lost their way and will remain a bit player here in the UK. Shame because you'd have thought people would want a compact SUV for daily driver but with decent 4wd for when they need it. Of course they don't want that its now form over function every time and the plain looking ASX is in a very competitive sector with the Japanese manufacturers and also Hyundai and Kia doing very well and advertising everywhere.

A couple round us. I would still not buy one. The single track roads I travel at weekends to go to our Association apairy are too narrrow for anything wider than a Mini.. If you want to drive a wide car, you need to detour 10 miles on a 5 mile journey!

One horsepower is of course ideal for such roads..

Are Mitsubishi service and spares still horrendously expensive and patchy?

Isn't this the car used as a paltform for the Citroen C-Crosser/Pug 3008?

No, that was the Outlander. The ASX is Qashqai size or a bit smaller.

Mitsi made a grave error putting that horrible sloping back front end on their crossovers and Outlander, the Lancer could just about get away with it as the height of the bonnet line meant it wasn't too in your face, it looks so wrong on the higher bonnet lines and i really couldn't buy one for that very reason, almost cringingly ugly like Multipla Popemobile.

Latest Outlander now redesigned completely and looks right again, but far too expensive.

We have an Outy mk1, not exactly a pretty car in its own right but probably on a par size wise with ASX.

We like its reasonable compactness, many cars are getting simply too big now for little gain in interior room, don't mind the length so much just they are far too wide.

How right you are DICDOC. My new ASX is my third Mitsubishi and once again I am impressed. I originally looked at the very similar Qashqai but found the ASX to be more comfortable, more spacious and a lot more distinctive.

ASX is much more spacious than the Qashqai

But it's still not that good space-wise, when compared to say, a CR-V, is it?

We've been looking at various estates and soft roaders for a replacement family car at the moment.

Whilst the ASX is unbeatable in a lot of areas I.e. standard equipment, mpg, aggressive looks, etc. The rear boot is not that much bigger than a standard Focus sized hatch - in fact it's smaller than my 2008 Civic's.

The interior is also black hole depressing - it's in dire need of some metallic trim and some interesting design features to break up the wall of black plastics. The plastics are not that great either. Typically Japanese.

They also need to standard fit the DRLs like they are where they sell it in other countries. The pano roof is also absent from the UK model, you can't even spec it as an option - would be a good source of light in this black cabin.

We are still considering it, but are contemplating a Audi A4 Avant, or even a CR-V.

Opening sunroof would be a better option than glass roof.... I only use the aircon on the hottest of days, otherwise just open the roof (not windows) and let the sun shine in

Yeah any option would be better than the Nothing option they currently offer.

The pano roof in other ASX's in other counties retracts BTW...
