All deseil cars manufactured from 2009 are required to have dpf by European law.
Euro 5, which makes DPF compulsory for diesel cars, is required for for any car built in/after September 2009 and for any car registered in/after January 2011
Both not quite correct.
All new models introduced after September 2009 were required to be Euro 5 and be fitted with a DPF from that date.
All existing models (Euro 4 and Euro 5) did not require a DPF fitting until January 2011 if they met the emission requirements for not needing a DPF when they were type approved.
But there was a third category which some manufacturers used to delay the introduction of DPF's. Updated models introduced after September 2009 could still avoid having a DPF fitted until January 2011 if the manufacturer type approved them as updates under the previous model approval.
One example is the Kia Ceed. The 1.6 CRDi was type approved as Euro 4 when introduced in late 2006. In 2009 Kia updated the Ceed with a new look front end, interior improvements and a new engine that complied with Euro 5, it went on sale late 2009 but did not have a DPF fitted. DPF's were fitted for the 2011 model year and UK deliveries started in Spetember 2010. I know this since we bought a Ceed CRDi in mid 2010. The car in the showroom for immediate delivery was the spec current at the time i.e. Euro 5 and no DPF. It was red thus not for us so it was a factory order. It arrived mid September and was the first 2011 MY car the dealer received and was fitted with a DPF they had seen.
