Audi A3 Automatic - prefer automatics

Can anyone tell me if this is a proper automatic or is it an automated-manual? Thanks in advance.

SFAIK all are of the DSG variety on the new and newish ones

If you are talking used, then I believe the older 1.6 petrols used proper automatics. The 102 BHP petrol 1.6 was dropped around 4 years ago I think, in favour of the 1.2/1.4 TSi

Thank you. So a 2005 1.6 Audi A3, Petrol, Tiptronic should be fine then.

I think Audi changed names of their autos from Tiptronic to Multitronic when they started with DSG but not 100% sure.

Suggest you do some serious research on this box. I don't know whether it is the same box as used in the A4 range but up to 2005 there were some problems with them fitted in the A4.

Again, do some research, but I believe the Tiptronic was a "proper" auto which also allowed you to select manual up and down changes.

Multitronic was Audi's name for their CVT box which featured "steps" in place of gears. It may be this one which had problems in the A4. Having said that, we had a rental A6 Avant 2.5 TDi Multitronic in Austria about 9 years ago, and it was a delight to use.

So, yes, a 2005 A3 1.6 auto should be what you are looing for.
