Pretty well all modern diesels are subject to this sort of problem but I would say that the Citroen/Peugeot diesels are better than many others, I have two. If you can't do the work yourself you need to find a good independant repairer, they are usually much cheaper than the dealer. The problem is possibly a clogged DPF but a diesel specialist would be best for a diagnosis.
I have the earlier 2.0.Hdi engines which are much simpler, both of which have covered around 200,000 miles now and are still good, the problem with any modern diesel is that as the polution requirements tighten up the engines become more complicated.
Unless you are doing a high mileage, I hate to say this, but you might be better off with a petrol engine but if you do then you are better off with the diesel.
