Any - Red diesel usage - who monitors it? - craig-pd130

At the weekend I was following a newish Range Rover TDV8. At a traffic light, I pulled up behind it, and noticed that the interior of both tailpipes was a very visible red.

I chuckled, but then started thinking: is it the police's job to stop and inspect road vehicles that they suspect of using red diesel, without paying the appropriate tax?

Even if it is the police's job to do this, is it actually worth their while to do it, given that it would probably lead to a lengthy investigation?

HMRC took over the role of the old Customs & Excise so I guess they and VOSA would be involved in checking.

It may of course been a painted tailpipe trim - mine is painted gloss black inside.

I did wonder about that, which in turn led me to thinking about what would happen if that was spotted by police ...
