Does the current model Berlingo Multispace have a DPF?

I think they started in 2008 and wondered if the early models might not have them as my mileage would not suit a car fitted wiith one but I still want a diesel so might have to look at the earlier model.

Any owner comments to reliability, build quality, etc would be gratefully received.

Regards.

If it has an 8 valve 2.0. engine probably not but a 16v almost definitly. The 8 valve Hdi engine is almost bombproof but it was only fitted to cars until 04, don't know about vans though, sometimes they kept them longer.

Is not they 8v Hdi still used in the new Picasso.

All vehicles registered after 01.01.2011 had to be Euro5 and have a DPF by law. Prior to this date it was a little hit and miss. Some had them, some didn't.

Thanks for the replies. I agree about the 2.0 HDI as my sister's Picasso has done 270K miles with only routine servicing and regular cam belt including a water pump.

I suppose the DPF will be visible some where on the exhaust system possibly near the turbo?

I would be grateful if any owners of early MK3 Berlingos 2008, 2009 could tell me if theirs has a DPF on.

Cheers.

Are you sure? I can only find references to them not being mandatory, e.g.

While no jurisdiction has explicitly made filters mandatory, the increasingly stringent emissions regulations that engine manufactures must meet mean that eventually all on-road diesel engines will be fitted with them. In the European Union, filters are expected to be necessary to meet Euro.VI heavy truck engine emissions regulations currently under discussion and planned for the 2012-2013 time frame.

I think a lot of the confusion comes from people (including the press) failing to understand the difference between Regulations and Laws.

While no jurisdiction has explicitly made filters mandatory, the increasingly stringent emissions regulations that engine manufactures must meet mean that eventually all on-road diesel engines will be fitted with them.

The regulatiuons pertain to the maximum mass of particulate matter in the exhaust stream. The method of meeting those requirements is not specified. The same thing applies to catalytic convertors used with petrol engines.

But since no amount of engine tuning can reduce the engine-out emissions to the rerquired level, particulate tra[ps are effectively mandatory.
