Vauxhall Vectra C 2001 - problem with engine mis-firing and rev counter - Helen Vectra

The car starts ok from cold. A recent problem has shown that after driving for approximately one hour, then stopping (engine switched off) when re-starting, the engine mis-fires and the rev counter drops to zero. The engine runs, but sluggishly and the rev counter fails to work. Unless caught on the accelerator at junctions etc it stalls. ??

Hmm. Rev counters are usually driven off the coil pulse (in the case of multi-coil setups - usually the No. 1 coil).

An iffy coil pack would account for both the odd rev counter behaviour and the misfiring / stalling when hot.
