Hi

I have a dilemma which needs to be sorted out so here goes.

My Ford Puma is getting on a bit (99)T plate and I would like to move it on for something slightly Newer.

Problem I have is what to choose to replace it , in a perfect world I would like to lower the cost of VED have low running costs and be fairly bulletproof for at least a Year or so......... But my Budget is fairly thin with the value of the Puma being around £700 to £900 at a guess as part EX with about £1000 cash on top.

I dont really need a big engined car as I only commute to work and the odd runaround town so no more than 100 miles a week .

I have read that at my pricepoint Japanese is the way to go .

Also do I go for a car that before March 2001 at 1549cc to get a lower VED or after 2001 .

Basically I need cheap tax , petrol, 2 or 4 seats , but dont know where to start

The Puma is a relatively old car but has low mieage (under 70000) but i am guessing the Part Ex value but is this dependant on what I am buying as a replacement

Does the Puma have problems? If not you may be better off sticking with a car you know. Whilst an 01/02 may be newer the technology can create more problems. PX will also be low on a cheap car as the dealer will have minimal margin to play with. Could be worth considering running the Puma into the ground, weighing it in and paying cash (hopefully more saved by then) for you next car.

I agree with RaineMan. If it is running well and not costing a lot to maintain, then spending more to get something just a little bit newer is a risk. The Puma will also be better to drive than almost everything else at that price point.

No the Puma runs perfectly fine no issues at all really ,

But the wife keeps on about getting shot of it as originally it was her car but she does not like driving it anymore...............and before you ask why well being af the female gender its difficult to understand WHY.

So the Car does have to go nut would like some alternatives to look at even if it means im am making the effort but still keeping the car a little longer .

Your Puma is more Japanese than you realise, the Puma engine was originally designed by Yamaha and made in a Yamaha factory in Spain.

Yamaha also used it as the basis for an outboard motor power unit.

Have a Look at Nissan Almeras, they did a 1.5 it was reasonable but dowdy, hence most have been looked after by elderly spinsters, cheap and plentiful used as never fell into the hands of drug dealers etc...
