My daughter bought a March 2012 version 2 weeks ago having done just under 13K miles. The sales person and the service book says services every 20k miles or 2 yearly. When I asked regarding oil and filter change the same advice. I know you get many similar questions such as this and I would think an oil change is overdue and should be done every 10K miles. Do you agree she should not wait until 20K miles? Indeed should not ALL cars get an oil change and filter every 10K miles to preserve the engines?.....

What does the service book say ,its normally longlife 20k services if you want to pay for an interim oil change do so by all means.This link may be of some use.

I would say change it at 10k. I'm sure that a lot of the problems with modern engines are due to the extended oil change intervals.

I too am in the 10k or 12 months max oil service camp, still don't allow my own vehicles to make 10k before slipping an interim in, have no intention of changing.

I buy high quality oil in bulk or when on offer so a no brainer.

My Hyundai Santa Fe is 20k or every year. I've had a local mechanic change the oil and filter at 10k and 30k. I buy the correct spec oil off the web (when on offer so relatively cheap) and filter from the Hyundai dealer. I keep the receipts. The mechanic is happy to charge for 30 minutes of his time (£30) and he disposes of the oil and I don't get my drive, clothes, hands dirty. This is not as cheap (about £70 all in) as taking it to National (£45) but I know 100% I've got the right oil and filter and its one third the price of the Hyundai dealer who when asked to quote reckoned £225 was a good price based on one hours labour £120, 6.5 litres at £15 a litre and £8 for the filter.

The service information and record book for this same model that I have says 20000 miles or 12 months for routine checks, including oil and filter.

to the op,,,,,,might be worth double checking as johnm52 says above 20000miles or 12 months,,,,,,,,,my hyundai veloster is 12500 or 12 months,,,you dont want to invalidate the warranty on these cars,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
